Crafting beautiful smiles with ceramic dental bridges in Pasadena

If you’re missing teeth or you need an extraction, finding a replacement option is crucial for your oral health. Dr. Baldwin Marchack and Dr. Christopher Marchack at Pasadena Prosthodontics offer patients ceramic dental bridges to restore full functionality to their mouth and make the most of their smile.

Benefits of dental bridges

When you’re missing teeth, it adds a lot of extra stress to your jaw, which can increase your risk for TMJ issues and fractured teeth. Your teeth also play an essential role in speech, and you may struggle with certain sounds without them.

Dental bridges offer a durable replacement option that can replace several missing teeth in a row. They are designed to attach to neighboring teeth and close the gap left behind. Patients can choose from porcelain-coated metal or all-ceramic bridges, and both will provide a natural-looking restoration that blends in with your other teeth.

With a dental bridge, you can chew and speak without issue. They also prevent your remaining teeth from shifting out of place. Implant-supported bridges provide all the same benefits, but they also last longer and prevent bone loss in your jaw. With dental implants, you can retain your face’s full, natural shape and avoid the hollowed cheeks and recessed chin associated with dentures.

Dental bridges aren’t always recommended for patients at risk of additional tooth loss. Your dentist will discuss all of your tooth replacement options with you at your consultation and help you determine the one that best suits your needs.

Traditional bridges

Traditionally bridges are typically mounted on two adjacent teeth supported by dental crowns, although in some cases, they may be supported by a single tooth or fixed to a metal bracket behind your teeth. If you need crowns to place your bridge, your dentist will remove the outer layer of tooth enamel on the teeth and reshape them to make space for the crowns. You’ll need to wait about 5-6 weeks after extraction to take impressions for your permanent bridge, but in the meantime, your dentist can place a temporary bridge and crowns so you can smile with confidence, but you’ll need to avoid hard foods while the extraction site heals.

Implant-supported bridges

Dental implants are placed directly into your jaw bone during oral surgery. The small, screw-shaped rods act as a tooth root that provides stimulation to the bone to prevent resorption. The dental implants are typically placed after the extraction site has healed, and you’ll need to give them time to fuse to the bone before you take impressions for your permanent bridge. Most patients who are healthy enough for surgery can get dental implants without issue, though you may need a bone or tissue graft to provide extra support.

Dr. Baldwin Marchack and Dr. Christopher Marchack have over 60 years of experience practicing dentistry, and they have placed countless dental implants. They are committed to providing a comfortable experience and beautiful restorations for every patient in need.
